ARTHROSTEER

Control and Access

ArthroSteer® instruments practice the patent-pending art of a single-plane 180 degree flexible spine with 360 degrees of independent jaw or tip rotation. This high-dexterity level can be used to effectively reach into a hip’s femoral head capsule using a posterolateral approach allowing the surgeon to grasp and remove loose bodies, unhealthy cartilage or cut away and/or burn torn labrum and bone.  The 5mm disposable ArthroSteer instruments vary in design by only their jaw – either a grasper or a punch.  The grasper utilizes a jaw to remove loose debris, cartilage and bone from the site, while the punch has a square cutting jaw which allows the surgeon to cut away fragmented cartilage or labrum which then can be removed by the grasper and/or suctioned out.

The flexible spine of the ArthroSteer instrument is controlled via the instrument’s thumb wheel.  This thumb wheel allows intuitive spine flexation up to 180° incorporated with a mechanism that locks the spine into the desired bend.  Further controlling the jaw’s or tip’s orientation in the joint capsule is developed by the capability of rotating them along their axis 360 degrees via a finger wheel.  The surgeon controls the jaw’s opening and closing via the handle’s trigger.
